Monsters in Shift At Midnight are the failure state of doppelganger screening. When a doppelganger slips through your checks, the night shift stops being store work and becomes survival horror.

The official description confirms four responses once creatures are involved:

• Barricade the doors to keep something out.
• Deploy traps prepared during the calmer parts of the shift.
• Fight the monster directly when you have the tools.
• Hide somewhere until the threat passes.

Confirmed creature: Rakes

The July 29, 2026 update officially added a creature named Rakes to the game. That name comes from the developer's own update announcement, so it can be stated plainly. Its exact behavior, spawn conditions, and counters are Pending confirmation until they can be verified against gameplay material.

Fight or hide?

The game supports both aggression and avoidance, and the right answer depends on the threat. The July 29 update added a second purchasable firearm, which widened combat options compared to launch.
